print infoporn is so 2009
according to urban dictionary
infoporn - Sexy and visually appealing visualizations of data, often using “Web 2.0” interactivity to suck the viewer in.
print infoporn has meme’d all over the internet from
- state of the internet
- mint.com
- cool inforgraphs blog
- death and taxes
- …etc (WARNING: Please do not click on this site unless you have the entire day to waste)
the internet is starting to grow up;
video is finally coming to a state of consciousness,
companies are recognizing that free is NOT the solution to everything
the hidden potential ($) of your social graph is being unlocked
i feel the time has come for print infoporn to grow up, fall to the wayside and for interactive infoporn to take the helm. (there i said it ok and yes that took a lot out of me to say that!)
the ecstatic appeal of infoporn has worn off because its a static document. yes, the information is simply represented into something a caveman can understand, but all i do with it is move my screen around so i can see the entire jpg.
i want zoom functionality, audio additions, videos playing, playful and whatever else Microsoft would never do.
now i introduce (or re-introduce) you to prezi,
Wired Intelligence Briefing on Prezi
as much fun as the tool is to play around with, there is a learning curve and the opportunity of layout freedom creates the constipation of decision. no problem, i firmly believe those that take the time to hone and master their “prezi” skills will be able to captivate their audiences (already incorporated in a few TED talks) in another way
other stories from prezi…
